Called to WorshipSample

The Lord has walked long and far with us, American missionaries in the South African mission field who have traversed through much. We call ourselves “the family that shouldn’t be” because His provision and love have truly been our daily bread. This devotional started as a series of weekly text messages called the "Friday Call the Worship". It came about in the waiting hours... waiting for justice, for breakthrough, for depression to fall and hope to rise, and for a child with special needs to fall asleep so I could slip out of his room. I started wearing headphones in my autistic son's room each night and letting worship music wash over me. Those grinding, worshiping hours were the ones where God spoke most and where He affirmed His rightful place in the hardest parts of life.
We are called to worship in it all. My prayer is that God would use my stories to help you find Him in yours.

How The Story Started
God gave me an incredible husband five years after unexpectedly becoming a single mother and missionary in rural South Africa. My now-husband had also left the US for missions. Our paths crossed when we were both caring for orphaned and vulnerable children. We married and put roots down in foreign soil so we could continue to raise our South African son and do what God called us to do.
We've missed saying goodbye to our grandparents, a generation of weddings, babies, and milestones - as well as pizza nights and Sunday lunches with parents, siblings, and cousins. We fused together a family in strange circumstances and have endured indescribable injustice, corruption, and oppression.
We have all faced trials and tribulations. Jesus said we would. (John 16:33) Our circumstances, however, have become our scaffolding for the spiritual truths that define our lives and set our course. Despite what we've walked through, here's what we've really seen:
We've been sustained on God's miraculous provision without lacking. We've been able to give away a car, house the homeless, and live without debt. We've seen hope build homes, miraculous physical healings, churches revive, communities access clean water, people turn from witchcraft to worship the one true God, and food multiply again and again until every tummy was full. We have seen mountains move to set my husband's feet exactly where God said they would be when He spoke to him over 20 years ago.
We've been participants in a great love story full of plot twists - one about how far a relentlessly compassionate Father will go to make a way for just one little boy who needed a family. He changed many lives around to make a way for one.
He did for us what He says He will for you.

About this Plan

In the quiet, tender spaces of motherhood and missionary life, worship became more than a song—it became survival. From her home in South Africa, missionary Kacy Ladd shares heartfelt stories of waiting, wrestling, and whispered prayers in the midnight hours—especially while parenting her autistic son. Through tears and worship, she discovered God’s nearness in the hardest places. This devotional is a gentle invitation from one mama to another: come find Jesus in your own wilderness. He sees you, He loves you, and even here—especially here—He is near and worthy of your worship.
